Groot-Saeftinghe
2017 | The Hedwigepolder in Zeeland is being transformed. The dikes are punctured and the water of the Schelde can flood the land again. Tnere is not much news here, this used to hapopen due to floods and wars. Now its not happening by force majeure but based on a by policy, an ecological policy.

Between the port of Antwerp and the Zeeland village of Namur, an area is created with space for new nature, recreation and agriculture. Two neighboring countries are setting up a new area. This is not only a spatial transformation but also an administrative novelty.

In the context of a spatial exploration where an economic basis for this area in transition was sought, Theo Baart photographed the strength of the existing landscape, the cultural-historical elements and the special frame of the area by harbor cranes, a nuclear reactor and a ghost town.
